okay, sure. we can work with this. a mermaid is just a fish hybrid. let's see... little mermaid is too easy... okay. powder monkey hj whose ship has captured a extremely rare albino dolphin hybrid and it's not like a mermaid can escape a tank so they put hj on guard duty

hj's been warned mer hybrids have the power to bewitch humans so he's not supposed to actually look at the tank, but the hybrid is so curious about this Very Small two-leg and keeps chattering away because, you know. it's fucking lonely down in the brig?

and being a powder monkey sucks ass anyway, so hj does eventually start talking back but he's very careful not to look at the tank! because he can, you know, follow orders. eventually the hybrid convinces him to look and oh. oh, the hybrid is the most beautiful thing hj's seen

also, like. extremely human? what the fuck. so then hj is like "hey is keeping a basically sentient creature fucked up? that's fucked up right?" and breaks the hybrid out of the tank and throws them both overboard and well. he picked a good one??

turns out 1. the hybrid's name is sh, 2. sh is a mer prince who was sent to do diplomacy with the humans (who captured them), and 3. because hj saved him everyone agrees that they should get married (including sh)

something something hj becomes pirate king. probably.
